Quintero Cigars

Quintero Cigars History

Quintero cigars is a premium cigar brand started in 1924 by Agustin Quintero and his four brothers in the town of Cienfuegos, Cuba. This town is located near the Vuelta Arriba region, which contains the Remedios tobacco-growing region.

This cigar brand was started as Quintero y Hermanos, translating to “Quintero and Brothers”, when Agustin Quintero and his brothers first opened a small cigar factory to produce handmade cigars. Quintero quickly became successful and gained popularity throughout Cuba and the world.

In the 1960s, when the Cuban cigar industry was nationalized due to the Cuban Revolution, most of Quintero’s handmade sizes were discontinued in favor of machine-made or hand-finished cigars. Then in 2002, the Cuban state-owned cigar company, Habanos S.A., decided to discontinue machine-made cigars and exclusively create hand-made cigars. As a result, the Quintero brand was updated to feature hand-made cigars with short-filler tobacco.

Quintero Cubans

Though Quintero is one of very few Cuban cigars that are not produced in the Capital of Cuba, Havana, the tobacco used in the cigars all come from the Vuelta Abajo and Semi Vuelta zones. All Quinteros are made to be Tripa Corta, Totalmente a Mano – short filler and totally hand-made.

How do Quintero Cigars Taste

Quintero cigars are known for their smooth flavour and medium-bodied strength, making them the perfect choice for those who are looking for less intensity. They are also known for a distinct grassy flavour and a sweet aftertaste that sets them apart from other Cuban cigars. With a smaller price-tag on these hand-made vitolas, Quinteros are great introductory cigars into the world of Habanos.
