Nub

The Story Behind Nub Cigars

Though it began as an experiment by Oliva Cigars under its creative arm in 2008, Nub has grown so much in popularity that it has achieved cult status on its own. It was first developed to test a new format of cigars – a shape that is extremely short and wide – which aimed to hit the “sweet spot” of cigars the whole way through. It is widely believed in the cigar community that the last third of cigars is not only its most potent section, but it also contains the “essence” of the cigar. This “essence” is what Nub tried to capture with its unique shape, and with great success.

About Nub Cigars

Nub wanted to create a cigar that could impart its essence immediately after lighting, with no time needed to develop its flavour. As a result, they created unusually short and stubby cigars that reveal extremely rich flavours within its bullet-like body. This unique shape provides a consistent and strong smoke throughout the duration of the cigar.

Nub cigars range from 3 ¾ to 4 inches long, with a ring gauge ranging between 54 and 66. Though they appear quite small compared to other cigars, they contain just as much tobacco as other cigars because of their width, resulting in similar burn times.

Nub has also made it easy for you to identify the size of their cigars, as their name includes its size. For example, the Nub Cameroon 460 is 4 inches long with a 60 ring gauge.

How do Nub Cigars Taste?

Nub cigars are made with a variety of wrappers, each a distinctly flavoured tobacco leaf that imparts its taste onto the experience. This ranges from the Connecticut, which gives off a slightly sweet taste, to the Habano, known for its smoky aftertaste. Nub also produces a flavoured cigar called Nub Cafe, which is known for its coffee-heavy aroma.

Because of their shape and size, Nub cigars have a slower burn than most cigar smokers expect. Their deep flavours can please any cigar aficionado who favour a strong and intense puff from the very beginning. However, they still begin with a cool and pleasant burn that will bring more than enough draws throughout the experience.

Where are Nub Cigars made?

Nub cigars are created in Esteli, Nicaragua at the Oliva Cigars Factory. They are hand-made, utilizing similarly stringent quality standards as the other brands within its parent company.

Popular Nub Cigars

Nub Cameroon is a popular medium to full-bodied cigar from the brand, garnering 92% in Cigar Aficionado for its earthy and nutty profile. Nub Maduro is another front-runner, with a Brazillian Maduro wrapper that brings subtle notes of dark chocolate, wood, and coffee beans. For a softer, less intense experience, you can go for the Nub Connecticut, which imparts slightly floral notes from its Connecticut wrapper leaf to balance out the body of the cigar.
