H. Upmann Cigars

H.Upmann is a premium cigar brand that was originally established in Cuba which exclusively uses filler and binder tobaccos from the famed Vuelta Abajo region.

History

Upmann was first created by a German banker named Hermann Dietrich Upmann who loved cigars so much that he moved to Cuba to expand his businesses. Shortly after moving, he purchased a local cigar factory in 1844 to start making cigars while establishing his bank. Throughout the 1800s, H. Upmann cigars grew to gain international acclaim, winning recognition from numerous cigar exhibitions around the world. Though his bank closed down in the early 1920s, his cigar brand lived on.

Upmann is sometimes credited with being the first company to package cigars in cedar boxes. These were given to Hermann Upmann’s bank clients as gifts, which included premium cigars from other brands before Upmann began producing his own.

Where are They Made?

Currently, H.Upmann cigars are made and managed by the state-owned Habanos, S.A. in Cuba, which is partially owned by Altadis, S.A. Its inclusion in Habanos, S.A. brought H.Upmann onto the world stage as an iconic Cuban cigar brand, especially when they released the limited-edition Magnum 50 in 2005.

What do H. Upmann Cigars Taste Like?

Upmann is known for its light to medium flavour in its cigars. Some of the most well-known cigars from the brand include the Magnum 46, the Sir Winston and the No. 2. The Magnum 46, while relatively inexpensive, gives a full-bodied flavour that is both creamy and decadent. The No. 2, on the other hand, is one of Cuba’s best-kept secrets and a difficult one to find. If you do get your hands on them, you’ll be rewarded with a worthy combination of earthy and nutty tastes within a cigar that consistently performs well.
