About Vegas Robaina Cigars
Vegas Robaina is a premium Cuban cigar brand currently owned by Habanos SA, the Cuban state-owned tobacco company. This post-revolution brand was created by Habanos SA to honour Alejandro Robaina, one of the most celebrated tobacco farmers within the Vuelta Abajo region in Cuba. He was known for farming tobacco of the highest quality, 80% of which were deemed fit for use as wrapper leaf during an average year (compared to 35% for other plantations). All Vegas Robaina vitolas are wrapped with tobacco from the Robaina family’s farm, and are ‘totalmente a mano, tripa larga’. Current Vegas Robaina cigars are made in Havana at the former H. Upmann Factory.
The Robaina family has farmed tobacco since 1845 on their vegas (fields) at Cuchillas de Barbacoa in the San Luis zone of the Vuelta Abajo tobacco region, the best-known region for growing tobacco in Cuba. It was during the revolution that Alejandro Robaina truly cemented himself as an influential voice within the Cuban cigar industry. When the revolution pushed many premium manufacturers out of the country, Robaina stood firm in his place and negotiated with the government to retain ownership of his tobacco fields. He became the face of the Cuban tobacco industry throughout the world, and his plantation continues to be a favourite destination for cigars aficionados when they visit Cuba.
Current Vegas Robaina Vitolas
As a tribute to the most famous tobacco plantation in Cuba, Vegas Robaina cigars will bring a taste of “Old School” Cuba to those who enjoy them. They are crafted to be strong and potent, making them better suited for cigar aficionados who prefer a more intense experience.
The Vegas Robaina Famoso is a Robusto that is medium to full strength. This cigar features an abundance of spicy notes atop a blend of wood, leather and aged tobacco flavours.
The Vegas Robaina Unicos is a torpedo that is often ranked amongst the best cigars by Cigar Aficionado, and a notable torpedo from Cuba. Like other Vegas Robaina cigars, this one packs a ton of bright and intense flavours typical of classic Cuban cigars. Starting with dense earthy notes, the cigar then takes on roasted coffee flavours and finishes with dried orange peel.
The Vegas Robana Don Alexandro is a double corona that is arguably the most classic and popular vitola from the brand. With a smaller ring gauge and longer body, this cigar provides a balanced palate that can be enjoyed for longer, featuring rich and intense aromas of cedar wood and coffee beans.
